Lubbock Soundscape

This project documents the “daily” sounds of Lubbock and looks to begin to reproduce sounds through autonomous machines and interactive machines. Along with beginning to reproduce sounds here from the Lubbock Soundscape, some sound machines create unique sounds. They begin to foster a new layer of information that will contribute to the soundscape of Lubbock. All these sounds are uniquely Lubbock, because of the moment they are created in and community they foster within our city.

Sound Machines

The goal of the sound machine project is to analyze the way random household materials can work together to produce sound. The project also begins to analyze autonomous sound versus hand made sound and the different qualities of both. Some of the sound machines created in tandem with this sound series, replicate sounds around Lubbock recorded and documented. However, some machines created completely new and unique sounds, contributing to the greater soundscape of Lubbock.

#SharedQuarantineSounds

On April 1st, LBK.Noise began a series called #SharedQuarantineSounds. This new series provided a way for people across the United States and even internationally to share parts of their experiences in quarantine through short, sound videos. In a time of social distancing where we are all, physically, cut off from each other, having a way to continue to share experiences with one another has become virtualized. By virtually sharing sounds and images, LBK.Noise has provided a new remote way to connect with others.
